The term “Naturopathy” was coined in 19th century and its roots can be traced back to Hippocrates who was also known as “Father of Medicine”.
Naturopathic medicine is a system that make use of natural remedies that aims at maintaining optimum health and disease prevention. It comprises of many therapies, including massage, accupunture, yoga, meditation and many other. According to naturopathy, the diseases are the sign of any inner disbalance and can be cured through a healthy mind, foods, herbs and therapies. Since naturopathy is a painless and natural technique, many people are following it not only in India but all over the world.
Naturopathy is based on a belief that body can heal itself. There are six prime principles followed by naturopathy:
- The healing power of nature- nature has the best ability to heal.
- Do no harm- a Naturopath will never use treatments that may create other conditions.
- Identify and treat the root cause –helps in treating the root cause whether physically or emotionally.
- Treat the body as a whole- when preparing a treatment plan, all aspects of a person’s being are taken into consideration.
- The Naturopath as a teacher – a Naturopath teaches self-care by empowering the patient to take responsibility for his/her own health by teaching self-care.
- Prevention is better than cure- regular practice of exercises help in prevention of diseases before they arrive.
These are the principles used by a Naturopath in curing the body as a whole– Physically, Mentally, Emotionally.
What is naturopathy used for?
Naturopathic medicines are used to promote good health, prevent disease, and treat illness. Naturopathy not only just treats the symptoms but also tries out to find the cause of the problem. For example, if patient has common cold then they may use a medicine to stop their running nose. This will only help in suppressing the symptom but their are full chances that it might come again. Another way to cure the cold is to find out the root cause of it. Common cold is due to a viral infection. And you are infected by the infection because your Immune system is not fighting against the infection, resulting in weak immune system. Therefore suppressing the runny nose is suppressing your healing. A naturopathic approach would help in boosting your Immune system by providing therapies, and allow the body to do what it does best – strive to be healthy.
IS NATUROPATHY SAFE?
There is nothing here that is 100% effective and safe. In medicine, naturopathy or any other health care, the practitioner will consider a risk as well as benefit of doing the therapies but as all these are natural so they are safe upto highest level.
A precaution is only the right way and the right time to practice every therapies as well as all yoga practices. As a precaution try to avoid taking any remedies and doing therapies by own. Always consult a Naturopath before trying any of the practices.
Naturopathy treatment is increasing day by day because of the wonderful benefits that it offers. It takes a comprehensive way to boost both physical and mental health. Naturopathic physicians first go into deep research to exactly understand the needs of patients before coming up with a treatment plan.
If you are suffering from any disease that modern science has failed to provide a solution for, you might want to turn to naturopathy.
After all “ It is health that is real wealth, not the pieces of Gold or Silver.” The journey of good health depends on a single step.
